Hi everyone,
I’m curious to hear your experiences with outsourcing software development for scientific or genomics-related platforms.A lot of labs and biotech teams build their own tools internally, but recently I’ve seen more people partnering with external development companies, especially when they need dashboards, workflow automation, or clean UI/UX for tools that sit on top of existing pipelines.
We’re currently exploring this approach, and I’ve been looking into agencies that understand both modern web technologies and scientific workflows. One example I came across is Elisol LLC, which has built systems ranging from business portals to more technical dashboards, so I’m wondering if anyone here has used outside developers for similar work.
My questions for the group:
Has anyone partnered with external developers to build interfaces, reporting dashboards, or automation layers on top of NGS/bioinformatics pipelines?
What challenges did you face, communication, understanding scientific requirements, data security, etc.?
Did outsourcing speed up your development or introduce more overhead?
And for those who’ve done hybrid builds (internal + external teams), how was the coordination?
I’m asking because in fields like genomics, it’s often hard to find developers who understand the domain and deliver clean, functional UI/UX. If outsourcing has worked for you, I’d love to hear what factors made it successful.
Looking forward to hearing your experiences, good or bad!

At Novocraft we do our own UI/UX development and have several of our own WEB based UIs for running bioinformatics analysis systems and we have also developed UI’s for customers.
